Kapisillit Tour Day – Explore Greenland’s Remote Fjord Village
A day trip from Nuuk to Kapisillit offers an unforgettable experience in the beautiful Greenlandic landscape.
About This Tour
Kapisillit is a very small settlement deep in the Nuuk Fjord system, about 75–80 km east of
Nuuk. With only around 40–60 permanent residents, it is one of the most remote accessible
communities in Greenland. There are no roads to Kapisillit — the only way in and out is by
boat, travelling through one of the largest fjord systems in the world.
The journey takes you through Nuup Kangerlua, where wide Arctic waters open up between
steep mountains, drifting ice, and long silent fjords. It is a slow, scenic passage where the
experience of getting there is just as memorable as the destination itself.
Kapisillit has a small local shop, a church, and a school, and life here is closely connected to
the sea and surrounding nature. Fishing, hunting, and seasonal living are part of everyday
life, and many houses are also used as summer homes by people from Nuuk.
The area is also known for something unique in Greenland — the Kapisillit River, the only
natural salmon river in the country. This gives the region a special connection to traditional
fishing culture and Arctic nature.
This tour is not about visiting a destination in a traditional sense — it is about experiencing
distance, silence, and scale. A journey into a fjord system where nature still defines the
rhythm of life.
Along the way, there is a good chance of seeing seals, seabirds, and sometimes whales in
the open fjord waters, making the trip itself a true Arctic wildlife experience.
