Illu Qoornoq (Coming Soon)

About this lodge

Illu Qoornoq is located in Qoornoq, a former fishing settlement in the Nuuk Fjord system.

The cabin sits close to the shoreline, surrounded by remnants of the old settlement, steep

mountains, and open fjord landscapes. Qoornoq has a history as an active fishing

community, including fish processing facilities and a small industrial railway once used for

transporting fish along the shore.

Today, Qoornoq is a place people return to rather than leave behind — used in summer by

families, cabin owners, and descendants with strong ties to the area.

It is a quiet place where history and nature exist side by side.

The journey starts in Nuuk

Your trip begins in Nuuk (Departure from Tidewater Steps in Nuuk).

We travel by boat through the Nuuk Fjord system. The journey takes around 2 hours and

passes through wide fjord sections, steep mountain walls, and drifting ice.

It is a calm and scenic route where seabirds and seals are often seen along the way.

Access is by boat only, which makes the arrival part of the experience itself.

About Qoornoq

Qoornoq is a former fishing settlement with a long coastal history in the Nuuk Fjord system.

The area has been shaped by:

● A small industrial rail system along the shoreline (no longer in use)

● Seasonal cabins and family houses

Old buildings still stand in parts of the settlement, slowly blending into the surrounding

nature, while the fjord continues to shape daily life here.
